AIMS & SCOPE

Voiceless Shouts, Unruly Arts & Embodied Resistance publishes peer-reviewed scholarship, creative-critical work, practice-based research, reviews, interviews, and multimodal submissions that examine the relationship between embodied knowledge, artistic practice, cultural memory, and resistance.

The journal welcomes work situated within Africana, diasporic, Indigenous, and Global Majority contexts, as well as comparative, transnational, and interdisciplinary studies that engage questions of power, history, representation, aesthetics, and knowledge production. We are especially interested in submissions that examine how creative and performative practices function as sites of theory, archives of history, and modes of cultural, political, and intellectual intervention.

Africana, diasporic, Indigenous, and Global Majority arts and expressive cultures
Dance, theatre, music, visual culture, film, literature, sound, spatial practice, and material culture

Practice-based research, creative-critical scholarship, and multimodal inquiry
Decolonial, Black feminist, womanist, Indigenous, and anti-racist methodologies

Digital & Multimodal Scholarship

As a digital journal, Voiceless Shouts, Unruly Arts & Embodied Resistance recognizes that some forms of knowledge cannot be fully conveyed through text alone. The journal welcomes multimodal scholarship that incorporates video, sound, image, movement documentation, digital exhibits, interactive media, or other forms of creative and digital expression alongside written analysis.

Multimodal submissions should not use media as illustration alone, but as part of the argument, method, archive, or scholarly contribution. Whether through recorded performance, soundscape, visual essay, digital storytelling, movement analysis, or interactive documentation, submissions should demonstrate intellectual rigor, ethical engagement, and cultural accountability.

The journal is also attentive to the contemporary intersections of technology, archives, artificial intelligence, and creative practice. We welcome work that critically examines digital tools and emerging technologies while honoring embodied ways of knowing, community-based knowledge systems, and the cultural contexts from which creative practices emerge.
